Tschudi launches anti-spoofing navigation tool

Tschudi Shipping Company has partnered with U.S.-based NAL Research and Norway’s SGM Technology to tackle growing threats to GPS and GNSS signals. The collaboration is developing a new tool that can detect spoofing and jamming in real time, providing safer navigation for ships operating in compromised environments.
Firstly, the technology uses Iridium’s low-Earth orbit satellite network to maintain global coverage. Trials are already underway with selected shipowners, aiming to provide a reliable backup to traditional GPS systems in high-risk regions.
Spoofing and jamming incidents have surged. Maritime authorities report a 350% increase in affected vessels over the last six months, with impacts ranging from collisions and route delays to serious safety risks for crews.
”Protection against GPS vulnerabilities is no longer a nice-to-have, but a necessity to ensure operational success and asset safety,” said Robert Bills, President, NAL Research.
In addition, SGM Technology CEO Steffen Grefsgård stressed the real-world urgency: ”Spoofing isn’t just a theory anymore. It’s a daily threat. We need to secure navigational systems to protect lives at sea.”
Also, Tschudi Group Chairman Felix Tschudi echoed that view, calling for industry-wide cooperation. ”As a fifth-generation shipping company, we’ve never seen a threat like this. The industry must work together to protect crews and cargo.”
Iridium’s PNT service offers an authenticated signal that resists jamming and spoofing. The new system brings together NAL’s 25 years of experience in assured positioning, SGM’s maritime tech know-how, and Tschudi’s long history in global shipping.
Lastly, the goal: a robust, reliable navigation system that keeps vessels on course, even when GPS fails.
