Shipnet names John Wills as Chief Operating Officer

Shipnet has appointed John Wills as its new Chief Operating Officer, marking a key leadership move as the company prepares for a new phase of product innovation and growth. Wills previously served as Head of Customer Experience and brings a strong data-driven background to his expanded role.

The Oslo-based maritime software provider, known for its integrated vessel management solutions, is aligning its customer-facing teams to better support upcoming product launches and a growing user base. Wills will oversee operations at a time when Shipnet is doubling down on digitalisation and tighter integration between products and services.

Wills, who entered the maritime sector a decade ago, has held roles across telecoms, healthcare, government, and finance, always with a focus on using data to drive smarter decisions. At Shipnet, he has helped push a “data-first” mindset, especially with the rollout of the company’s Helix platform, launched 18 months ago to deliver advanced reporting and business insights.

”This role lets me work more closely with both our customers and our internal teams,” said Wills. ”Digitalisation in shipping is no longer on the horizon, it’s here. With connectivity improving across fleets, the need for data insights is only growing. For many, data is now more valuable than adding tonnage.”

CEO Terje Kristiansen said Wills’ appointment reflects Shipnet’s strategy to streamline customer access to its full range of tools and expertise. ”John brings a clear sense of purpose. He’ll unify our teams and help customers solve business problems in smarter, more connected ways,” he said.

Shipnet, founded in 1993, supports over 130 companies across 31 countries. The firm continues to focus on offering scalable, intelligent solutions that meet the evolving demands of modern maritime operations.
