KWE partners with Shell Aviation

Kintetsu World Express (KWE) has signed a new agreement with Shell Aviation to expand the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in its air freight operations. The move follows KWE’s participation in a 2023 pilot program by the Smart Freight Centre aimed at testing market-based measures for SAF adoption.
Also, under the agreement, KWE will leverage Shell Aviation’s digital platform, Avelia, to access SAF’s environmental benefits even when physical supply is limited. The platform uses blockchain technology to ensure traceability, prevent double-counting, and provide a secure, transparent record of SAF usage.
Tatsuya Narasaki, Managing Officer at KWE, said the initiative is part of the company’s broader commitment to reducing CO₂ emissions globally. “SAF is a key element in our efforts to achieve net-zero emissions. This collaboration with Shell Aviation represents a major step forward in making sustainable air transport a reality,” he said.
Doris Tan, Head of Shell Aviation for Asia Pacific and the Middle East, emphasized the importance of the partnership. “Through Avelia, we aim to accelerate SAF adoption and provide companies like KWE with a scalable pathway to reduce aviation-related greenhouse gas emissions,” she said.
Lastly, the agreement positions KWE and Shell Aviation at the forefront of sustainable air freight, offering shippers a reliable way to reduce the environmental impact of their cargo operations across Asia and beyond.
