Goltens Dubai launches near-zero-emission exploration vessel Captain Arctic
Goltens Dubai celebrated the launch of Captain Arctic, a near-zero-emission exploration vessel. The launch followed the successful completion of hull fabrication.
The vessel was built for SELAR by Chantier Naval de l’Ocean Indien (CNOI) in Port Louis, with Goltens providing engineering and fabrication support. The project reflects international collaboration and a focus on decarbonization.
Captain Arctic measures 69 meters and uses renewable energy sources. It combines rigid sails with photovoltaic solar panels, reducing CO₂ emissions by up to 90% compared to conventional ships.
Sandeep Seth, CEO of Goltens Worldwide, said: “The launch of Captain Arctic highlights Goltens’ commitment to practical solutions that advance maritime sustainability. It is both a technological and environmental milestone.”

Goltens Dubai’s scope included hull fabrication, king post construction, and installation of products like watertight doors. The vessel now moves into outfitting, systems integration, and commissioning.
Once operational, Captain Arctic will provide sustainable exploration and luxury hospitality in Arctic waters, demonstrating how renewable technologies can support environmentally responsible maritime adventures.
