MITSUI E&S rolls out FALCONs on Kambara Kisen Ship

MITSUI E&S has begun providing its FALCONs hull fouling management service for Proactive Earth, a container ship operated by Kambara Kisen. The digital solution is designed to improve fuel efficiency and support CO₂ reduction by enabling precise monitoring of hull condition and propulsion performance.

Kambara Kisen has already been using a maritime data platform to optimize voyage operations, but accurate assessment of vessel performance has been difficult due to external factors like wind and waves. FALCONs addresses this by applying a proprietary propulsion performance analysis method that isolates the impact of hull fouling, allowing operators to determine the optimal timing for hull cleaning.

Before deployment, MITSUI E&S analyzed a full year of operational data from Proactive Earth, successfully demonstrating the system’s ability to quantify fouling-related performance losses. This capability is especially valuable for container ships, which typically operate on short docking intervals and require precise planning to maximize the results of partial hull cleaning.

Kambara Kisen will integrate FALCONs insights with underwater inspection data and AI-based fouling analysis to further refine cleaning strategies. If the program continues to deliver measurable improvements, the company plans to expand usage across its fleet.

MITSUI E&S states that the introduction of FALCONs aligns with its commitment to digital-driven service expansion and support for decarbonization within the maritime industry.
