Maersk updates Peak Season Surcharge from Indian Subcontinent

Maersk has announced a revision to its Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for cargo moving from the Indian Subcontinent and Middle East to the U.S. East Coast, U.S. Gulf Coast and Canada East Coast. The updated surcharge applies to shipments originating from the United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Bhutan, India, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Yemen.

The carrier says the adjustment is necessary to maintain service reliability and ensure sufficient capacity during peak-demand periods. The revised PSS levels apply to the container types specified in Maersk’s schedule and take effect on the dates communicated to customers.

Maersk notes that the above rates are also subject to other applicable surcharges, including local charges and contingency charges. These levels do not override and are not affected by any tariff published or filed in accordance with local regulatory requirements.

For trades governed by the U.S. Shipping Act or China Maritime Regulations, Maersk emphasizes that any quotation or surcharge differing from its public tariff is not binding unless it is formally included in a filed service contract or service contract amendment with the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) or the Shanghai Shipping Exchange, as applicable.
