Fincantieri and ASRY sign Bahrain cooperation deal

Fincantieri has signed an industrial cooperation agreement with Bahrain’s ASRY. The deal strengthens the Italian group’s presence in the Gulf.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Bahrain’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa attended the signing. The companies signed the agreement on the sidelines of the 46th Gulf Cooperation Council Summit.

Fincantieri Chairman Biagio Mazzotta and Naval Vessels Division General Manager Eugenio Santagata represented the Italian group. ASRY CEO Ahmed AlAbri signed on behalf of the Bahraini company.

The agreement opens the door for Fincantieri to enter Bahrain’s shipbuilding market. It also supports the group’s wider Middle East strategy. The company may also work through MAESTRAL, its joint venture with EDGE.

Under the agreement, the partners will assess projects to design and build military vessels up to 80 meters in length. These ships would serve Bahrain’s Navy and Coast Guard.

The partnership also covers offshore vessel construction. The companies will pursue export opportunities across the Gulf.

The deal includes maintenance, repair, and overhaul services. It also covers knowledge sharing in naval design and production efficiency.

Fincantieri said the agreement strengthens its long-term industrial footprint in the region. The company described Bahrain as a key growth market in the Middle East.
