Osaka Port foreign container traffic falls in October

The Port of Osaka recorded another decline in foreign-trade containers in October. Total volume reached 180,184 TEUs, down 7.3% year on year, according to preliminary data from the Osaka Ports and Harbors Bureau and as Japan International Freight Forwarders Association (JIFFA) reported.

Exports totaled 82,790 TEUs, a drop of 8.6%. Imports fell 6.3% to 97,394 TEUs.

Loaded container traffic weakened further. Exports stood at 36,137 TEUs, down 10.6%. Imports reached 91,707 TEUs, a 9.4% decline. Combined loaded volume came to 127,844 TEUs, down 9.7%.

Empty containers proved more resilient. Volumes slipped just 1% to 52,340 TEUs.

January–October Results

For the first ten months of the year, the port handled 1.73 million TEUs of foreign-trade containers. That marks a 2.9% increase year on year.

Exports rose 4.6% to 789,219 TEUs. Imports increased 1.6% to 936,146 TEUs.

Loaded containers totaled 1.22 million TEUs, down 0.1%. Export loads dropped 3.6% to 318,423 TEUs. Import loads edged up 1.2% to 902,605 TEUs.

Empty containers surged. Volumes reached 504,338 TEUs, an 11.3% increase.
