Wärtsilä secures 10th Australian BESS project with Flow Power
Wärtsilä will deliver a 100 MW / 223 MWh battery energy storage system for Australian renewable energy retailer Flow Power.
The Bennetts Creek BESS will be built next to the Morwell Terminal Station in Victoria. It will provide key ancillary services, including frequency regulation, to strengthen grid stability and support Australia’s energy transition. The order was booked in the fourth quarter of 2025.
The project marks Wärtsilä’s tenth battery energy storage system in Australia and its first collaboration with Flow Power. Bennetts Creek will support the National Electricity Market and expand Flow Power’s growing portfolio of renewable and storage assets.
The system will generate revenue through frequency regulation while supporting energy arbitrage. It will also help maintain grid stability as conventional power generation continues to retire.
The project will use Wärtsilä’s Quantum energy storage technology. Wärtsilä’s GEMS software will manage power control, battery charging and discharging, and compliance with grid requirements. The delivery will follow an engineered equipment delivery model, with long-term service support included.
Flow Power said the project will provide firm capacity for new renewable developments in Victoria and strengthen its presence across the National Electricity Market.
Wärtsilä said the project will expand its Australian energy storage footprint beyond 6 GWh. Construction is set to begin in 2026, with operations expected to start in 2028.
