Wärtsilä 31 engine chosen for Hartman Seatrade heavy-lift vessel

Wärtsilä will supply the engine and propulsion system for a new 3,800 DWT heavy-lift vessel being built for Netherlands-based Hartman Seatrade at their new Rock Shipbuilding yard. The order was booked in Q4 2025.

The vessel will use the Wärtsilä 31 engine, known for top fuel efficiency, low emissions, and modular design that reduces maintenance and supports both fast and slow steaming.

Teele Hartman, Managing Director of Hartman Seatrade, said: “Wärtsilä engines deliver the performance, flexibility, and low maintenance we need. Their proven track record made them the clear choice.”

Wärtsilä will also provide a gearbox for PTI, PTO, and PTH modes, a Controllable Pitch Propeller (CPP) managed by EcoControl, and hydrodynamic optimisation via Opti Design. These features enhance fuel efficiency and reduce operational costs. Delivery is scheduled for spring 2027.

Roger Holm, President of Wärtsilä Marine, said: “Operators need to balance efficiency, reliability, and sustainability. The Wärtsilä 31 engine, paired with advanced propulsion technologies, meets these demands while keeping operations flexible and profitable.”

Hartman Seatrade has previously equipped several vessels with Wärtsilä systems, reflecting their long-standing partnership.
