As charter rates heat up, MSC takes Global Ship Lease ships from Maersk

MSC is snapping up ships from Global Ship Lease (GSL) after the vessels come off charter to Maersk Line, as the Swiss-Italian operator widens its gulf with its Danish rival, with a fleet that is greater by 2.5 million TEU.

Linerlytica said in its report this week that the 2000-built 6,008 TEU GSL Violetta has been committed to MSC for 36 to 38 months, at privately agreed rates.

Going rates for a 6,509 TEU ship are US$67,000 per day, according to MB Shipbrokers (formerly Maersk Broker).
