BBC Chartering names new LakerMax Vessel BBC BREMEN

BBC Chartering officially christened the BBC BREMEN, the eighth vessel in a series of fifteen LakerMax-type ships, at BLG’s terminal in Bremen Neustädter Hafen.

Anitta Schumann, Chartering Manager at BBC’s Bremen office, served as godmother. She broke the traditional champagne bottle on the hull and wished the vessel “fair winds and following seas.” The ceremony included around 100 guests, among them Kai Stührenberg, State Councillor at Bremen’s Senator for Economic Affairs, Ports and Transformation; Joachim Bothe, Deputy Port Captain; and Matthias Magnor, CEO of BLG Logistics. The Bremen Seamen’s Mission chaplain, Magnus Deppe, blessed the ship and its crew.

Schumann said: “I was delighted to be nominated as godmother. I have always called it ‘our ship,’ and now I feel even more connected to it.”

Knut Voigt, Head of BBC Chartering’s Bremen office, added: “Bremen has a special place in our history. We are proud to welcome and celebrate our ship here.”

The BBC BREMEN, delivered in September 2025 to Briese Schiffahrt (owners) and operated by BBC Chartering, has already completed successful voyages. After loading in Bremen, she will call in Hamburg before heading to Galveston and Houston in the U.S.

Like her sister ships, BBC BREMEN is a multipurpose triple-decker with two Liebherr LS250 cranes lifting up to 500 metric tons. She offers 2,830 sqm of unobstructed deck space, 26,000 cbm cargo volume, and 5,500 sqm covered storage. Optimized fuel efficiency reduces GHG emissions per freight by up to 30%.
