Lloyd’s Register takes over leadership of OCX Consortium
Lloyd’s Register (LR) will assume the Chair of the Open Class 3D Exchange (OCX) Consortium in January 2026.
Nathan Lindop of Lloyd’s Register will take over as Chair and Coordinator of the Consortium. He succeeds Ole Christian Astrup of DNV, who has held the role since the group was formed in 2019.
The leadership change comes as OCX moves from development into wider industry adoption. More shipyards, designers, and technology providers now embed the OCX standard into their digital design tools.
OCX is a 3D model-based class approval standard. It enables the seamless exchange of geometry and metadata between design and classification software. The standard can replace traditional 2D structural drawings. This helps shipyards save time and allows class societies to respond faster to design changes.
The OCX Consortium now has 40 members. The group aims to streamline data exchange and improve collaboration across ship design and classification. The standard reduces duplication, cuts manual rework, and supports integrated digital workflows.
Lindop’s appointment will focus on strengthening implementation and expanding adoption. As Coordinator, he will also guide the Consortium’s technical direction and future development.
Nathan Lindop said Lloyd’s Register will play a central role in the next phase of OCX. He highlighted the industry’s growing demand for interoperability and efficiency in digital design and classification.
Ole Christian Astrup welcomed the transition. He said the handover shows that OCX is firmly anchored in the maritime industry and ready for long-term growth.
The new role further strengthens Lloyd’s Register’s position in maritime digitalisation. Through its Digital Transformation Research Programme, LR works with industry partners on digital class, innovation, and cyber security, addressing both technical and regulatory challenges.
