Konecranes secures order for eight hybrid Straddle Carriers from HHLA
Konecranes has won an order for eight hybrid Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers from HHLA Container Terminal Tollerort in Hamburg, Germany.
The order was booked in Q4 2025. The units are scheduled to enter service by the end of 2026.
HHLA will use the new machines for container transport between the quay and yard. They will also support stacking operations and landside truck and rail handling. The units will replace older diesel-powered straddle carriers.
Each machine features a diesel generator set and an onboard battery system. This hybrid setup reduces fuel consumption and tailpipe emissions without affecting performance. The straddle carriers also include a powerlift system for improved operator comfort.
HHLA said the investment supports its long-term development strategy and CO₂ reduction targets. The terminal already operates several Konecranes Noell straddle carriers and selected the hybrid model to maintain high productivity while lowering emissions.
The new units are based on Konecranes’ latest modular design platform. The system allows future upgrades to fully electric or hydrogen-powered drives. This gives operators flexibility as emission regulations and energy strategies evolve.
Konecranes said the order strengthens its partnership with HHLA and reflects a shared focus on efficiency and decarbonisation.
The agreement also supports Konecranes’ Ecolifting roadmap, which aims to achieve zero tailpipe emissions through hybrid, electric, and alternative fuel solutions for port operations.
