SAAM Towage strengthens fleet with new high-tech tug

SAAM Towage has added a new high-performance tug to its fleet. The vessel, named SAAM Guanay, was built by Sanmar Shipyards in Turkey.

Sanmar delivered the new Boğaçay Class tug as the 13th vessel built for SAAM Towage. The tug is based on Robert Allan’s RAmparts 2400SX MKII design. It is optimized for maneuvering in ports with limited space. The design combines high power with operational flexibility.

The vessel features an IMO Tier III emissions reduction system. This reinforces SAAM Towage’s commitment to sustainability and efficiency.

Pablo Cáceres, Director of Sustainability and Development at SAAM Towage, said the tug meets today’s operational needs. He noted that its eco-friendly systems significantly reduce NOx emissions. He added that the vessel supports customers in a safe, reliable, and sustainable way.

Rüçhan Çıvgın, Commercial Director of Sanmar Shipyards, highlighted the strong partnership with SAAM Towage. He said both companies share a vision for a sustainable maritime future. He added that Sanmar is proud to support SAAM’s fleet expansion.

SAAM Guanay follows the company’s tradition of naming vessels after birds. The name refers to a cormorant species found along the Pacific coast.

Technology and sustainability

The tug complies with IMO Tier III standards. It uses Caterpillar 3516E engines and a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system. The vessel measures 24.4 meters in length and 12 meters in beam. It delivers 80 tons of bollard pull.
