Liebherr partners with KranTehnik EU to modernize Balkan crane fleet
Liebherr Tower Cranes has entered a strategic partnership with KranTehnik EU to modernize the tower crane fleet across eight Balkan countries. The partnership covers Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo, and North Macedonia.
The partners aim to reduce the average fleet age from 25-30 years to approximately 15-18 years over the next five years. This would represent a fundamental shift for the Balkan construction industry.
Building Market Confidence
KranTehnik EU wants to help contractors understand and trust modern crane technology. “We want the Balkan market to see modern cranes not as a risk, but as a reliable, fully supported solution,” said Mr. Zanko from KranTehnik EU.
The partnership combines Liebherr’s crane technology with local technical expertise and fast response times. The goal is to establish modern tower cranes as the norm across the region.
Market Requirements
Top-slewing cranes dominate the Balkan market, particularly hammerhead and flat-top models. Self-erecting cranes are widely used by smaller contractors due to their transportability and fast installation.
Contractors prioritize price, ease of transport and erection, jib length flexibility, and sufficient lifting capacity. This makes Liebherr’s EC-B series and K-series especially attractive for the market.
Service Focus
Fast spare parts availability, short response times, and local service technicians are critical for maintaining uptime. Operator training is gaining importance as contractors seek confidence that support and expertise are readily available.
The partnership aims to raise industry standards, strengthen safety awareness, and support long-term development of the construction sector across the Balkan region.
