Kongsberg upgrades Listen Electromagnetic Sensor System

Kongsberg Discovery has upgraded its Kongsberg Listen electromagnetic sensor system. The update improves inspections, surveys, and data collection in complex underwater environments.

The system was previously known as Argeo Listen. Kongsberg has enhanced both hardware and software. The upgrade improves data processing and visualisation.

The platform-agnostic system supports applications in ocean science, defence, energy, and minerals.

Integration and rollout

Kongsberg Discovery acquired Argeo’s electromagnetic sensing technology in August 2025. The company also hired Argeo’s specialist team. Since then, it has integrated the system into its portfolio and accelerated development.

Kongsberg has already deployed the system on its HUGIN autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). The company reports strong results in commercial surveys. It has now started the commercial rollout.

Kongsberg will showcase the system under the Kongsberg Listen name at Oceanology International in London next month.

Improved performance

Audun Berg, EVP of Kongsberg Discovery, said the upgrade delivers clearer and more precise results. He said the system improves efficiency and simplifies operations. Users can now move faster from data collection to analysis.

The company has tested the system on HUGIN AUVs. It has used it for pipeline inspection, cathodic protection evaluation, marine mineral exploration, and buried cable positioning.

Integrated software environment

Kongsberg has integrated the upgraded software into its Blue Insight ecosystem. The system now supports end-to-end workflows. It processes raw electromagnetic data and delivers client-ready information in a single environment.

The company designed the system for flexible deployment. Operators can install it on AUVs, ROVs, and towed platforms.
