De Jong Shipping Group acquires stake in TransMatch

De Jong Shipping Group has acquired a minority stake in TransMatch with retroactive effect from 1 January 2026.

The deal strengthens De Jong Shipping Group’s inland shipping activities and supports its expansion strategy in Northwest Europe.

The investment also marks the group’s first structural presence in the Belgian inland shipping market.

De Jong Shipping said the partnership will expand its commercial reach and operational flexibility across the region.

TransMatch operates in the ARA region, Belgium, Northern France and parts of the Rhine and Moselle areas.

The company combines a growing owned fleet with a strong regional commercial network.

The collaboration brings together De Jong Shipping’s expertise in push barge operations and TransMatch’s strong position in motor vessel shipping.

The companies said the partnership will improve cargo flow management and increase flexibility in vessel deployment.

“We see cooperation as a more effective way to grow than adding capacity in an already competitive market,” said Pelger de Jong of De Jong Shipping Group.

He added that TransMatch’s strong position in the Belgian market fits well with De Jong Shipping’s operating approach.

The companies also expect the growing TransMatch fleet to support more stable pricing in the traditionally volatile inland shipping market.

“For us, this collaboration feels like a logical next step,” said Lazlo Albrecht of TransMatch.

“By joining forces, we can accelerate further growth while maintaining our own identity and way of working.”
