CMA CGM has deployed the CMA CGM NOTRE DAME, the world’s largest French-flagged LNG-powered containership, on its first commercial voyage.

The vessel made its maiden call at Yangshan Port in Shanghai on 22 May.

The CMA CGM NOTRE DAME is the first in a series of ten 24,212 TEU LNG-powered containerships that will operate under the French flag.

The vessel measures 400 meters in length and 62 meters in width.

CMA CGM said the ship will operate on the French Asia Line (FAL), connecting Asia with Northern Europe.

The rotation includes Ningbo, Shanghai, Yantian, Singapore, Le Havre, Rotterdam, Hamburg and Tanger Med.

The company said the vessel combines LNG propulsion with advanced AI and digital navigation systems.

The ship includes intelligent energy management systems and advanced route optimization technologies designed to improve efficiency and lower emissions.

The vessel can accommodate up to 1,600 reefer containers and carries an 18,600 m³ LNG fuel tank.

CMA CGM also said the ship’s design increases carrying capacity by 580 additional containers without changing its overall dimensions.

“The CMA CGM NOTRE DAME embodies a new generation of LNG-powered container ships combining scale, operational performance and energy efficiency,” the company stated.

The vessel is operated by around 25 seafarers under the command of Master Nicolas Le Scornet.

CMA CGM plans to deliver the remaining nine vessels in the series between 2026 and 2028.
