According to a court document filed on Wednesday, the Trump administration is evaluating whether it should send back the Interior Department’s Biden-era approval of an offshore wind project in Virginia that is currently under construction for reconsideration.
In a court filing, the agency said it was reviewing offshore wind leases in order to comply with Doug Burgum's August order to stop preferential treatment of wind and solar projects.
The filing stated that "consistent with the secretarial order", undersigned counsel was informed that DOI intends to conduct a review where it will determine if remand would be appropriate.
Interior has been seeking court approval in recent months to reconsider Biden Administration permits for several offshore wind projects. This technology is deemed expensive and ugly by U.S. president Donald Trump.
The Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Project, which will provide electricity for 660,000 homes is the most advanced. In a regulatory filing made in October, the company said it had installed all 176 wind turbine foundations or monopiles. It also laid deepwater cables, and finished one of three offshore power substations.
