South Korea’s HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE) has revealed a major order for the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, a shipyard and marine engine builder. The order signed on June 9 is for the construction of eight containerships for an undisclosed Asian shipping company by 2028.
The shipbuilding contract for the construction of the boxships was disclosed by the company on June 10, with expected delivery to the company on November 30, 2028, the company said in a stock exchange filing.
The Hyundai shipyard stretches over four kilometers along the coast of Mipo Bay in Ulsan, Korea.
The contract period starts on June 9, 2025, and ends on November 30, 2028. This order adds to HD KSOE’s portfolio, which has seen significant activity this year.
Recently, executive vice chairman of HD Hyundai Chung Kisun held talks with the United States Trade Representative (USTR) to explore opportunities for cooperation between South Korea and the U.S. in the shipbuilding industry.
