A ferry carrying 65 people sank near the Indonesian island of Bali on 2 July, leaving six people dead, 30 missing, and 31 rescued, according to the country’s national Search and Rescue Agency.

The ferry, KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya, departed from Banyuwangi port in East Java and sank approximately 30 minutes into its journey to Bali. The vessel was carrying 53 passengers, 12 crew members, and 22 vehicles. Search and rescue efforts began shortly after the sinking and included deployment of helicopters, four vessels, and more than 160 personnel from the national rescue agency, police, and military.

The search was temporarily halted on the evening of 3 July due to poor visibility and rough sea conditions, and is scheduled to resume Friday, as reported by Reuters.

The ferry was operating within its capacity, which is rated at 67 people and 25 vehicles, according to the Indonesian Transport Ministry. All passengers were Indonesian nationals.
