United European Car Carriers (UECC) is expanding its fleet of eco-friendly Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTCs) with the order of two additional LNG dual-fuel battery hybrid vessels from China Merchants Jinling Shipyard Nanjing.
The new 3,000 CEU-capacity ships will complement two larger 4,500 CEU PCTCs already on order, scheduled for delivery in 2028. UECC’s total fleet will then include nine dual-fuel LNG and multi-fuel hybrid PCTCs. Developed with the Shanghai Ship Research & Design Institute (SDARI), the vessels feature multi-fuel LNG engines, advanced propulsion technology, aerodynamic hulls, shore power capability, and a ballast-free design.
These newbuildings represent a significant step forward in safety, efficiency and environmental performance, while redefining cargo-carrying capability in the PCTC segment
… said UECC’s CEO, Glenn Edvardsen.
According to the company, UECC has also integrated robust fire containment. Furthermore, the newbuild PCTCs will be supported by an integrated digital framework designed to enhance operational insight and decision-making.
Advanced monitoring and data capabilities contribute to improved performance management, situational awareness and lifecycle optimisation. Together, these digital solutions support safer, more efficient and transparent operations across the vessels’ service life
… Edvardsen explained.
The ships’ design also supports a broader cargo scope, with nine decks, a 160-ton quarter stern ramp, and increased deck height and strength for transporting high & heavy (H&H) units and project cargo, expanding capabilities beyond typical PCTC limits.
