Yokohama Unveils FY2025 Port and Harbor Budget

The city of Yokohama’s Port and Harbor Bureau has outlined a fiscal 2025 (April 2025–March 2026) budget draft, allocating a general account of US$102 million.

This marks an 11.3% decrease (or US$13 million) from the previous fiscal year’s budget, primarily due to reduced expenses for the national redevelopment project at Honmoku Pier D5 Container Terminal and the construction of a boarding bridge at Osanbashi International Passenger Terminal.

For port and harbour development, the bureau has designated US$232 million, reflecting a 9.8% increase (or US$20.8 million). This rise is mainly attributed to higher expenditures related to the redevelopment of Yamashita Pier.

Meanwhile, reclamation projects are set to receive approximately US$150 million, translating to a 43% increase, driven mainly by projected growth in corporate bond redemption costs.

To enhance the port’s international competitiveness, US$117.8 million has been allocated for the construction of a New Honmoku Pier, while US$65,000 is set aside for designing an access route to the new pier—a newly introduced project for fiscal 2025. The pier construction falls under the port and harbour development budget, whereas the access route design is part of the general account.

Additionally, US$2.8 million is earmarked for the redevelopment of container terminals at Minami Honmoku Pier and other related projects. Furthermore, US$69 million has been allocated for redeveloping and upgrading Honmoku Pier, including the improvements at the D5 Container Terminal.
