In this podcast S&P Global Market Intelligence Economist Paul Bingham touched upon various aspects of the freight economy, including: trade and tariffs; sourcing and nearshoring; inflation; retail sales; and manufacturing, among others. 

Bingham manages economic analysis of supply chain transportation and trade for companies and public agencies worldwide. He has extensive experience forecasting modal freight markets in analysis for beneficial cargo owners, carriers, terminal operators and government transportation agencies. His research has included economic impact analysis, quantitative market analysis, scenario forecast modeling for transportation networks and facilities for all modes of freight transportation.

He is a subject matter expert in freight transportation, having contributed to programs of the U.S. National Academies of Sciences Transportation Research Board (TRB) for over 25 years. He is a member of the TRB Committee on Data for Decisions, and the Port Performance Subcommittee and the Joint Supply Chain Subcommittee. He is past Chair of the TRB Freight Systems Group and Emeritus Member of the TRB Freight Systems Group Executive Committee.  He is a past Chair of the TRB Freight Transportation Data Committee and former Secretary of the TRB Committee on International Trade & Transportation.  

Mr. Bingham is an appointed member of the U.S. Marine Board. He previously served three terms as an appointed member of the U.S. Federal Advisory Committee on Supply Chain Competitiveness of the U.S. Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration. He has served as a lecturer on port economics for the American Association of Port Authorities’ Marine Terminal Management Training Program. He is a member of the Council on Supply Chain Management Professionals, contributing the annual Penske Logistics CSCMP State of Logistics Report and CSCMP EPIC country risk reports.
