Taiwan Launches Its Inaugural Homegrown Autonomous Vessel, the “Endeavor Manta

Taiwan Shipbuilding Corporation (CSBC) recently introduced its frist homegrown unmanned surface vessel (USV), the Endeavour Manta, during a launch event at Dafa Shipyard in Kaohsiung.This sleek vessel stretches 8.6 meters long and 3.7 meters wide, boasting an notable payload capacity of over one ton. With a top speed exceeding 35 knots (about 64.82 km/h),it’s designed for agility on the water.

The Endeavour Manta is equipped with various remote interaction options like 4G, radio frequency, and satellite links. It features advanced capabilities such as swarm control mode,autonomous navigation that avoids collisions,AI-driven target recognition,and anti-hijacking measures—all powered by state-of-the-art technology.

constructed from fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP), this USV is built too withstand tough maritime conditions. CSBC Chairman Huang Cheng-hung highlighted that the design focuses on both maneuverability and seaworthiness; its trimaran hull enhances stability in the often turbulent waters of the Taiwan Strait where waves can reach notable heights.

In terms of combat readiness, this vessel can be outfitted with light torpedoes on either side and high-explosive charges at the front for strategic attacks—first launching torpedoes before ramming enemy vessels with explosives to ensure mission success. The ability to control up to 50 USVs simultaneously from one console adds another layer of tactical advantage.CSBC has committed to a “de-red supply chain” strategy by ensuring no components are sourced from China; most systems are locally produced except for satellite communications and outboard motors which come from international suppliers.

Additionally, TSMC power Technology—a subsidiary of CSBC—has developed innovative remote control tech that allows for easy upgrades based on operational requirements.
