Celebrating Over Two Decades of QUALSHIP 21 Excellence for the Republic of the Marshall Islands

The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) Registry has consistently demonstrated its dedication to top-notch shipping standards, earning accolades from the global maritime community. Recently,during INTERTANKO’s North America panel meeting in Stamford,Connecticut,the United States Coast Guard (USCG) announced this year’s QUALSHIP 21 qualifying jurisdictions.For an impressive 21 years running, RMI has maintained its status as a qualifying jurisdiction—making it the only one among the world’s three largest registries to achieve this milestone.

“Our commitment to compliance transcends mere numbers,” shared Bill Gallagher, President of International Registries, Inc. and its affiliates (IRI), which support the RMI Registry with administrative and technical expertise. “We work closely with owners and operators of RMI-flagged vessels as well as global port State control authorities to ensure safe operations today while continuously improving for future challenges.”

To uphold its stellar port State control record, IRI is investing in essential resources for tomorrow’s needs. with specialized teams focusing on alternative fuels and decarbonization technologies spread across IRI’s international offices, they are well-equipped to assist RMI-flagged vessel operators tackle upcoming challenges.

“our strong PSC record reflects not just our dedicated owners but also our extensive support network,” remarked Thomas Bremer, Vice President of Fleet quality and Compliance. “As regulations evolve alongside onboard technology advancements, so too does our assistance.”

The RMI Registry is embracing technological advancements by streamlining processes that cater to a rapidly digitizing maritime sector.

“We’ve heavily invested in tech and human resources to boost collaboration within our teams,” said Theo Xenakoudis, Chief Commercial Officer and Managing Director – Piraeus. “With digital tools for scheduling inspections and analyzing PSC trends at our fingertips, we’re enhancing client services considerably. Our goal is a seamless experience across all 28 offices worldwide that allows us to share insights effectively while addressing potential issues proactively.”

Apart from being on the USCG’s QUALSHIP 21 list for over two decades straight, RMI also enjoys whitelisted status with both Paris and tokyo memorandums of Understanding along with positive ratings from australia’s Maritime safety Authority. As of March 31st this year, there were 5,773 vessels registered under RMI; notably 26% of all ships enrolled in QUALSHIP 21 are flagged by them—36% achieving E-ZERO status.
