Land allocated for Indian rolling stock factory

INDIA: BEML is to build a Rs18bn rolling stock factory in Madhya Pradesh which will significantly expand its production capacity to meet growing demand from Indian Railways as well as metro networks at home and abroad.

BEML said the ‘landmark’ expansion would strengthen its manufacturing presence while also driving regional industrial growth and generating significant employment opportunities.

The state government has allocated 60 ha of land at Umeria in Raisen district for the plant, and Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav visited BEML’s factory in Bengaluru on May 14 to formally hand over the land allotment letter.

During his visit he participated the roll-out of the 2 100th metro car to be produced at the site, part of an order for Mumbai, toured the manufacturing facilities and met members of BEML’s all-women ‘Pink Line’ which manufactures metro car components.
