ATR Strengthens Collaboration with Braathens for Enhanced Aviation Solutions

ATR and Braathens Regional Airlines have just extended their Global maintenance Agreement (GMA) for another five years. This renewal showcases the strong confidence that Braathens has in ATR’s exceptional skills in regional aviation support.

The updated GMA guarantees ongoing assistance for Braathens’ fleet of ATR aircraft, which includes access to a vast inventory of Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) and services for repairs and landing gear overhauls. This move highlights ATR’s established reputation for reliability, cost-effectiveness, and swift response—key elements that are crucial for airlines navigating today’s competitive market.

Apart from maintenance,ATR is stepping up by offering customized training programs aimed at Braathens’ flight crews. They’re linking aspiring pilots from flight schools with operators eager to hire eager newcomers. After a rigorous selection process, these cadets will embark on a type rating course at the ATR Training Center before taking on roles as junior first officers with Braathens. To ensure they hit the ground running, ATR flight Instructors will provide essential line training support. This initiative not only helps meet Braathens’ demand for regional pilots but also upholds high standards of safety and efficiency.

This renewed collaboration emphasizes how ATR serves not just as an aircraft manufacturer but also as a vital partner in operational success. Recently shifting its focus solely to providing flight capacity to other airlines like SAS and Austrian Airlines, Braathens has streamlined its corporate strategy away from scheduled services or wet leasing.

To align with this new direction, the number of aircraft in Braathens’ fleet is set to increase from 14 to 17 by year-end; one of these will be a brand-new ATR 72-600 straight off the assembly line.

“By strengthening our partnership with ATR, we’re reaffirming our trust in their ability to deliver top-notch support essential for our wet-lease operations,” said Jimmie Bergqvist, deputy CEO of Braathens. “This agreement goes beyond logistics; it embodies our shared commitment to reliability and sustainability within regional air travel.”

Stefano Marazzani from ATR remarked: “Our ongoing relationship with Braathens reflects the strength of our service offerings and customer trust. By providing tailored solutions that cater specifically to their operational needs rather than sticking strictly to standard OEM responsibilities, we can effectively assist them in enhancing connectivity across Europe sustainably.” He added that they are committed partners through both triumphs and challenges.

This partnership builds on a rich history between both companies—including their groundbreaking test flight powered entirely by sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) back in June 2022.

the deepening ties between them illustrate how manufacturers like ATR can evolve into complete partners who contribute significantly towards innovative approaches in regional air transport sustainability while fostering mutually beneficial relationships with airlines.
