Inmarsat NexusWave Paves the Way for Eco-Friendly Scallop Fishing on New Ava Ocean Vessel
According to a recent publication by Inmarsat Maritime, the innovative connectivity service will enhance Ava Ocean’s groundbreaking seabed harvesting techniques in the remote Barents Sea while also improving operational efficiency and crew comfort on their new vessel. This partnership marks a renewal of collaboration between Inmarsat,now part of Viasat,and Ava Ocean—previously known as Tau Tech. The Norwegian company plans to implement Inmarsat’s cutting-edge NexusWave connectivity service aboard its latest non-invasive scallop harvesting ship later this year.
Ava Ocean is committed to sustainable scallop harvesting in the Barents Sea and has been utilizing Inmarsat’s Fleet Xpress for its current vessel’s connectivity needs.By adopting NexusWave for their new ship, they aim to further enhance their sustainability efforts and digital transformation initiatives. This advanced solution integrates multiple high-speed networks in real-time—including GX Ka-band, LEO satellites, LTE, and a robust L-band network—with future plans for incorporating ViaSat-3 ka-band technology.
NexusWave provides unlimited data access with global coverage at impressive speeds. This capability not only helps Ava Ocean protect marine ecosystems but also ensures that over 30 crew members have reliable communication for both operational safety and personal use—even in some of the most remote areas.
