Transforming Airfreight: Embracing the Digital Revolution

A recent publication by ACL Airshop highlights their enterprising digital transformation journey, which merges cutting-edge technology with customized local solutions to revolutionize the tracking and management of unit load devices (ULDs) in global airfreight operations.

Central to this initiative is a collaboration with SkyCell, a Swiss company focused on next-gen tracking and analytics for ACL Airshop’s extensive ULD fleet.

“Our partnership with SkyCell elevates ULD management, providing smarter and more connected solutions for cargo carriers,” stated Harold Elfring, IT systems director. He co-led this project alongside Jos Jacobsen, the chief commercial officer. “By integrating their reliable technology into our systems, we’re establishing an IoT-enabled ULD network that facilitates real-time interaction,” he added.

Citing insights from Elfring and Jacobsen, the new tech will infuse pharmaceutical logistics precision into broader cargo operations. Features like automated messaging for ULD leases and advanced analytics will make ULD management more proactive and obvious.

This means airlines can expect enhanced visibility throughout the process, improved asset utilization, and increased confidence in cargo movements. The digitized workflows enabled by precise geolocation will cut down on manual tasks while boosting visibility for all stakeholders—saving time and resources along the way.

The Importance of asset Visibility

this shift builds upon ACL Airshop’s existing digital framework anchored by its robust ULD management system paired with mobile tracking tools.

“Our centralized platform integrates securely via API with other systems to create a extensive ecosystem of real-time ULD-related data,” explained Elfring.

The company is rolling out LoRa tracking technology across its fleet while enhancing mobile capabilities through its FindMyULD™ app as part of their Localisation+ initiative. This allows customers direct access to locate ULDs digitally from their devices.

“The FindMyULD™ app empowers users by enabling them to check stock levels or send IATA messages on-the-go,” noted Elfring. “It’s designed for fast access with features like push notifications and offline functionality.”

Pursuing Integrity Through Interoperability

Citing ACL AirshopS commitment to a proactive tech-driven approach ensures seamless interoperability across its digital tracking ecosystem. By utilizing an integration platform as a service (iPaaS), they facilitate secure connections between various airfreight systems—allowing smooth data exchange among multiple parties involved in logistics operations.

The firm also provides ground handling agents at select locations access to digitize previously manual tasks that consumed valuable time.

“We take security seriously,” said Elfring.”Partnering with trusted IT firms like SkyCell ensures compliance through ISO/IEC 27001 certification.” p >

Their strategy includes secure API connections along with encryption protocols ensuring robust internal contingency plans are in place.

“Automated messaging enhances visibility into short-term leases while promoting consistent data across our network,” he elaborated. Customer-Centric KPIs & ROI Focus b > h3 > Despite significant investments in digital technologies , ACL remains grounded in customer satisfaction metrics .“Customer happiness is our top priority ,” emphasized Elfring . “We measure success using strategic KPIs centered around operational efficiency ,asset optimization ,and informed decision-making .” p >Main indicators include reduced manual tasks , improved asset visibility , better utilization rates, and saved man-hours . Each project aligns directly back towards enhancing operational performance & delivering value back towards customers . Global Reach With Local Adaptation b > h3 >Around the globe spanning over fifty-five locations requires not just strong infrastructure but also thoughtful regional adaptations according COO Wes Tucker: “Each region has unique regulations & operational realities.” P >

This necessitates combining standardized processes globally while allowing local customization based on specific needs whether regular airline partners or one-off charters facing challenges within certain regions.” P >

Diverse partnerships Are Key

Cultivating partnerships locally proves essential; thus they actively engage airport authorities & service providers ensuring compliance tailored services meet regional standards.” Tucker remarked.

This collaborative approach keeps them aligned evolving regulations streamlining operations effectively delivering localized solutions backed expertise globally.”
