Menzies Aviation Champions Groundbreaking Rugby Development Program in Kenya
According to a recent publication by Menzies Aviation, the prominent service provider for airports and airlines worldwide, they have teamed up with ChildFund Rugby to enhance the impactful Pass It Back program in Kenya, in partnership with the Kenya Rugby Union.
This initiative is globally recognized for introducing youth to non-contact T1 rugby while equipping them with essential life skills that are vital both on and off the field. This collaboration marks a notable advancement in leveraging sports as a means of fostering social change.
As Pass it Back commemorates it’s 10th anniversary, Kenya joins an expanding network of nations utilizing rugby as a vehicle for promoting equality, inclusion, and leadership. By merging life skills education with athletic training, this program ensures that rugby serves not only as a sport but also as an empowering tool for young individuals.
In the upcoming two seasons of rugby action, over 250 players aged between 11 and 16 will engage in structured weekly sessions lasting 90 minutes each. These sessions will be led by youth coaches aged 16-25 who will help form community teams focused on both athletic prowess and social advancement. The curriculum combines rugby techniques with valuable lessons on emotional management, building healthy relationships, challenging societal stereotypes, and nurturing personal growth.
The delivery of Pass it Back will be spearheaded by Kenya Rugby Union which is committed to training youth coaches while ensuring that female participation exceeds 50% across all levels of leadership within the initiative.
Thu Le from ChildFund Rugby expressed enthusiasm about this partnership: “Rugby has always been more than just a game for us; it’s an avenue for personal development and possibility. With Pass It Back gaining momentum over ten years of success, we’re thrilled to collaborate with Menzies Aviation and Kenya Rugby Union to foster grassroots growth in Kenyan rugby.”
Menzies Aviation’s Chief Governance & Sustainability Officer John Geddes added: “We take pride in partnering with ChildFund Rugby and Kenya Rugby Union on this remarkable initiative aimed at empowering youth through critical life skills alongside their love for rugby. Together we are paving pathways toward brighter futures by providing access to sports education and leadership opportunities—cultivating future leaders both on the field and beyond.”
