Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk recently shared an exciting progress where a Model Y SUV autonomously traveled from the company’s Austin factory to a customer’s residence. This move marks a notable step in Tesla’s journey toward fully autonomous driving.
Musk took to X to announce this milestone, revealing that the vehicle made its way “across town,” navigating highways without any human presence or remote control. While he didn’t share any visuals just yet, he promised that footage of this groundbreaking delivery would be available soon. According to Ashok elluswamy, Tesla’s AI and autopilot chief, the car reached speeds up to 72 mph during its journey.
this first-ever autonomous delivery underscores Musk’s vision that AI and robotics are pivotal for Tesla’s evolution. Just days prior,on June 22,Tesla launched its much-anticipated robotaxi service in Austin with select influencers and investors getting rides in self-driving Model Y SUVs within a designated area.

The push towards mass-producing robotaxis and Optimus humanoid robots is crucial as sales have been sluggish in major markets like North America and Europe. Additionally, some backlash against Musk due to his past political affiliations has affected consumer sentiment; several executives have also departed recently.
