A recent publication by Fincantieri reveals that the Indonesian Navy officially received its first Multipurpose Combat ship (MPCS), named KRI BRAWIJAYA-320, during a ceremony on July 2, 2025, at their shipyard in Muggiano, La Spezia.
The event saw notable figures such as Biagio Mazzotta from Fincantieri and Admiral Muhammad Ali of the Indonesian Navy come together with other dignitaries including H.E. Prof. DR. Junimart Girsang, Indonesia’s Ambassador to Italy, and high-ranking officials from the Italian Navy.
This delivery marks a significant achievement for both Fincantieri and Indonesia’s naval forces as they welcome KRI BRAWIJAYA-320 alongside its sister ship KRI PRABU SILIWANGI-321. These vessels are set to enhance Indonesia’s maritime capabilities in the Indo-Pacific region while reinforcing ties between the two nations.
The MPCS class is designed for versatility; it can handle various missions ranging from combat operations to search-and-rescue efforts and civil protection tasks. Notably, these ships can deploy high-speed Rigid Hull inflatable Boats using a lateral crane or hauling tramp located at the stern.
With an overall length of 143 meters and capable of speeds exceeding 31 knots, each vessel accommodates up to 171 crew members. They feature advanced propulsion systems that include diesel engines paired with gas turbines along with electric propulsion capabilities.
this progress not only strengthens Indonesia’s naval power but also symbolizes growing international collaboration in defense technology—an essential factor in today’s global security landscape.
