How worried should you be about bunker supply?
SPEAK to shipowners about current bunker supply, and you’ll encounter contrasting views.
Some remain notably calm: supply is holding up despite the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and while prices are firmer, they argue this is manageable and operations can continue effectively.
Others take a far darker view. For them, the Strait of Hormuz poses a genuine threat to bunker availability across major hubs, and rising prices risk pushing certain voyages into unprofitable territory.
So what’s the reality? Should you be worried about supply? Is quality suffering as a result of scarcity? And how has this latest geopolitical crisis affected how bunkering works as a sector?
