A measurement of work provided by Bitcoin miners, the 1 ZH/s milestone reflects miners’ accelerating deployment of hashrate, with the network climbing from under 800 EH/s at the start of 2025 to today’s zetahash scale. Of the 1 ZH/s, roughly 30% derives from U.S. publicly listed Bitcoin miners.

The seven-day moving average provides a clearer picture of underlying growth by smoothing over daily variability. The daily network hashrate measurement touched 1 ZH/s intraday in various instances this past calendar year, but this is the first sustained period above the threshold.
Bitcoin first crossed the 1 EH/s milestone in 2016. Nine years later, it has multiplied that capacity by a factor of 1,000. Higher hashrate enhances network security by making blockchain reorgs more costly, even as it pressures miners to optimize for energy efficiency and cost.
