HMM takes delivery of its first methanol dual-fuel container ship
HMM has announced the arrival of HMM GREEN, a 9,000 TEU methanol-powered containership, marking the first in a series of nine eco-friendly vessels ordered in 2023.
According to the company, designed to operate on bio-methanol, HMM GREEN is expected to lower carbon emissions by up to 65%, aligning with the latest international environmental regulations. The vessel will soon be deployed on the FIM route, which connects key ports across Far East Asia, India, and the Mediterranean Sea.
In February 2023, HMM had placed a $1.2 billion order with Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries(HSHI) and HJ Shipbuilding and Construction(HJSC) for nine 9,000 TEU containerships powered by methanol dual-fuel engines.
The ships are scheduled to be deployed on the Asia-North/Latin America trade lanes and the Asia-India routes, with expected delivery from 2025 to 2026.
With more vessels arriving by next year, we continue to push forward toward our Net-Zero by 2045 goal!
… said the company in a statement.
