Greek LNG terminal upgrade aims for zero emission operations
Operations at the Revithoussa LNG terminal in Greece resumed on 12 May following a planned shutdown to enable the integration of a new high-pressure BOG compressor station to boost its sustainability.
As stated, the temporary closure which bean on April was carried out to facilitate the integration of a new high-pressure boil-off gas (BOG) compressor station. The new compressor station expected to become operational soon introduces a more sustainable approach to managing boil-off gases.
According to Greece’s National Gas System Operator (DESFA), the upgrade will eliminate the need for flaring during normal operations, aiming to transform Revithoussa into a “zero CO2 emissions” terminal. Furthermore, it is designed to capture LNG vapors from the terminal’s storage tanks and inject them into the high-pressure gas network, significantly reducing product losses.
During the shutdown, the terminal also underwent scheduled maintenance and inspections aimed at extending its operational lifespan.
At the same time, tie-in works were completed for the installation of a small-scale LNG jetty. This addition is expected to expand the terminal’s capabilities, enabling the supply of LNG to new regions across the country and supporting the growth of its bunkering operations.
