Higher box traffic at Saudi ports in March

In March, the ports operated by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) experienced a 13.6% increase in container handling, nearing 700,000 TEUs, up from 616,000 TEUs in the same month of the previous year.

The number of exported containers surged by 32%, amounting to 280,341 TEUs compared to 212,672 TEUs, while imported containers rose by 7.8% to 281,216 TEUs from 260,912 TEUs. However, the volume of transshipped boxes saw a slight decrease of 2.9%, totaling 138,371 TEUs versus 142,495 TEUs.

Total cargo throughput tonnage, encompassing general cargo, solid bulk, and liquid bulk, increased by 8.7%, reaching 21,181,246 tons up from 19,488,335 tons. This figure includes 971,850 tons of general cargo, 4,515,924 tons of solid bulk, and 15,693,472 tons of liquid bulk. Additionally, the ports received 870,566 cattle heads, a decline of 9.4% from 961,131 cattle heads in the same month last year.

Maritime traffic also rose by 6.75% to 1,044 vessels, while the number of passengers increased significantly by 35%, totaling 84,665 passengers.

Moreover, vehicle traffic went up by 33.5%, with 90,271 vehicles compared to 67,620 vehicles last year.
