MacGregor secures first electric crane order for India-built vessels

MacGregor has received an order from the Netherlands-based Vertom Group to supply fully electric cargo cranes for four multipurpose vessels.

This contract marks MacGregor’s first delivery of electric cranes for vessels constructed in India, representing a major step in bringing sustainable maritime solutions to emerging markets.

The vessels will be built at Chowgule Shipyard in India, with the order facilitated through close collaboration with MacGregor’s local sales partner, VARYA Tech Pvt Ltd.

Deliveries are scheduled to commence in 2026. Each vessel will be fitted with two fully electric cargo cranes, each with a safe working load of 80 tonnes at 18 meters.

Unlike traditional hydraulic systems, the fully electric cranes offer enhanced safety, reliability, and operational efficiency while minimizing environmental impact.https://container-news.com/suez-canal-offers-15-transit-fee-discount-for-large-boxships/

Rolf van Leeuwen, Newbuilding Superintendent at Vertom, highlighted that the cranes support a vision for safer and more sustainable operations.

Shrikant Itagi, Director of Projects at Chowgule Shipbuilding Yard, said the MacGregor cranes were selected for their advanced VFD electric technology and MacGregor’s proven track record in delivering successful solutions to Indian shipyards.
