Jacksonville port welcomes first Gemini Cooperation vessel with arrival of Maersk’s Seaspan Montevideo

The Jacksonville Port Authority has marked a significant milestone with the arrival of the Seaspan Montevideo, one of the first vessels to call at the port under the new Gemini Cooperation.

This North America Shuttle service, formed through a strategic alliance between ocean carriers Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, provides direct connectivity between Jacksonville, Florida, and Cartagena, Colombia, a key transshipment hub within the expansive Gemini global network.

The service calls JAXPORT’s Blount Island Marine Terminal on a weekly basis, with stevedoring operations handled by SSA Atlantic.

Through transshipment at Cartagena, the service links Jacksonville to a broad range of destinations across Asia, Europe, the West Coast of South America, Central America, Oceania, and the Caribbean.

This scale and flexibility offer significant advantages to shippers using the Southeast US as a logistics hub.

Robert Peek, Chief Commercial Officer at JAXPORT, said that  this service delivers flexible transshipment opportunities, access to new markets, and competitive transit times supported by Gemini’s strong schedule reliability.
