Everglades Company Terminal signs 10-Year lease, reinforcing port Everglades’ role as South Florida’s premier trade gateway

Everglades Company Terminal has entered into a new 10-year Marine Terminal Lease and Operating Agreement with Broward County, reaffirming Port Everglades’ status as a key economic engine for both the region and the state of Florida.

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners recently approved the agreement, which grants ECT continued use of a 39.18-acre terminal in the port’s Southport cargo area.

The facility, operated by Port Everglades Terminal, LLC, will be leased through December 31, 2034, with two optional five-year extensions.

This new deal replaces MSC’s previous lease, which had been in place since 2004.

Joseph Morris, CEO and Port Director of Port Everglades said that this agreement with ECT and the continuity provided by Port Everglades Terminal, LLC further solidifies our position as a vital global gateway for trade.

According to analysis by Martin Associates, ECT’s operations under the new lease are projected to generate over $161 million in annual business service revenue for the region.

The terminal is expected to sustain 425 direct jobs and contribute approximately $10.5 million in state and local taxes in its first year alone, based on an estimated 85,000 container moves.

These figures are anticipated to rise significantly over the course of the agreement.

The agreement also formalizes the transfer of permanent leasehold improvements from Port Everglades Terminal to the port, including an office building, Rubber-Tired Gantry crane pads, racks for 450 refrigerated containers, and an inspection dock equipped with shore power infrastructure to support 116 refrigerated units.
