Port of Rotterdam and EDGE Navigation partner to advance liquid hydrogen infrastructure
At the World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam, the Port of Rotterdam Authority and EDGE Navigation signed a Letter of Intent to collaborate on the development of a future-ready liquid hydrogen infrastructure to support the decarbonisation of the maritime industry.
EDGE Navigation is actively developing a fleet of commercial cargo vessels powered by liquid hydrogen, along with a dedicated LH₂ tanker designed for import operations in Northwest Europe and ship-to-ship bunkering services.
Through this agreement, both parties signal their shared commitment to positioning Rotterdam as a leading international hub for maritime hydrogen innovation.
The cooperation aims to build joint expertise on the regulatory, procedural, and logistical requirements necessary for the import of liquid hydrogen—from ship-to-shore transfer to ship-to-ship delivery.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to prepare the Port of Rotterdam for the deployment of EDGE’s LH₂-powered vessels, which are expected to begin operations starting in 2028.
The Port of Rotterdam Authority noted that liiquid hydrogen will complement the current offerings, including ammonia and LOHC (liquid organic hydrogen carriers), and further enhance the energy portfolio.
