PIL has officially begun construction of its first 13,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel container vessel

Pacific International Lines (PIL) has officially begun construction of its first 13,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel container vessel, marking a significant milestone in the company’s fleet renewal and decarbonization strategy.
This vessel is the first of five next-generation ships ordered from renowned Chinese shipbuilder Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding in August 2024, with deliveries scheduled to begin progressively from late 2026.
These new vessels are equipped with dual-fuel engines and auxiliary systems capable of operating on both LNG and low-sulphur fuel oil, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
They will also feature the latest technological and energy-saving innovations, including the use of Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things for task automation—boosting operational efficiency and enhancing crew safety on board.
Abhishek Chawla, Chief Marine Officer at PIL, said that these vessels are a cornerstone of a long-term commitment to building a more sustainable and efficient fleet.
Also, PIL have partnered with Hudong Zhonghua to build 10 advanced container vessels as part of our ongoing fleet renewal programme.
The new headquarters and expanded production facilities are a major leap forward for Hudong Zhonghua and represent a significant advantage for customers like PIL in executing large-scale projects with precision and speed.
