MSC declines to settle damages sought for vessel sinking off India coast

MSC has expressed its inability to comply with an Indian court order seeking over US$ 1 billion in damages towards the environmental and economic impact the 25 May sinking of the MSC Elsa 3 is believed to have caused along the southern India coastline.
The objection was raised by legal counsels on behalf of the Geneva-based shipping group during court proceedings on Thursday (10 July) in response to an admiralty suit filed by the Kerala state authority, according to sources.
