Poland and Bangladesh explore maritime and energy partnership at port of Gdańsk

The Port of Gdańsk welcomed a high-level delegation from the Embassy of Bangladesh, including Ambassador Md Mainul Islam and First Secretary Mr Biswajit Debnath, for a strategic dialogue focused on strengthening bilateral maritime and energy cooperation.
During the visit, Port of Gdańsk officials presented key insights into the port’s operations and its growing role as a strategic logistics hub for Central and Eastern Europe.
Discussions centered on three main areas: Establishing direct sea routes between Poland and Bangladesh, exploring a partnership between the Port of Gdańsk and the Port of Chittagong (Chattogram) and identifying collaborative opportunities in LNG infrastructure development, particularly involving the Gdańsk LNG Terminal.
Currently, maritime trade between Poland and Bangladesh is routed through transshipment hubs like Colombo and Singapore, with no direct container services.
However, the rising volume of bilateral trade and ongoing port development on both sides present a real opportunity to launch direct maritime connections enhancing efficiency and reducing transit times.
As the Port of Gdańsk continues to position itself as a key entry point to the European market, the prospect of closer cooperation with Bangladesh aligns with its broader goals of expanding eastward connections and facilitating international trade growth.
Further dialogue and exploration will determine how this potential partnership may evolve in logistics, port infrastructure, energy, and the establishment of direct maritime routes to benefit both countries in the long term.
