CMA CGM ZEPHYR transits Suez Canal

The container vessel CMA CGM ZEPHYR recently transited the Suez Canal as part of the southern convoy, en route from Singapore to Alexandria Port. The vessel’s passage marks the tenth transit by a container ship under new incentives introduced by the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) to encourage traffic recovery through the canal.
Sailing under the flag of Malta, the CMA CGM ZEPHYR led the southern convoy through the New Suez Canal. The ship measures 366 meters in length, with a beam of 51 meters, a draft of 53 feet, and a gross tonnage of 164,000 tons. It was carrying 11,800 TEUs on board during the voyage.
The transit follows the introduction of Circular No. 3/2025, which offers a 15% discount for container vessels exceeding 130,000 tons in net tonnage, laden or in ballast, valid for a three-month period. This initiative is part of the SCA’s broader effort to boost traffic through the canal amid ongoing regional instability.
“SCA continues to provide its navigational services and implement mechanisms that maintain the regular flow of traffic despite tensions in the Red Sea,” said Adm. Ossama Rabiee, Chairman and Managing Director of the Suez Canal Authority.
