SAAM Towage adds two new high-tech tugs

SAAM Towage has added two new tugs to its fleet. The SAAM Petrel and SAAM Charrán will operate in Chile and Peru. Both were built at Sanmar Shipyards in Turkey and designed by Robert Allan Ltd.

Firstly, the tugs are named after seabirds native to the Chilean and Peruvian coasts. It’s a long-standing SAAM Towage tradition.

”This acquisition is a key part of SAAM Towage’s investment plan for this year, which seeks to continue optimizing our operational capacity and service offering to strengthen our presence in both countries,” said Cristián Cifuentes, Country Manager, Chile-Peru.

The SAAM Petrel is headed to the Port of Arica. It features an IMO Tier III emissions system, the first of its kind in Chile. Also, the SAAM Charrán has already arrived at the Port of Callao in Peru.
