Update on Incident onboard WAN HAI 503 Vessel

Wan Hai Lines has provided an update on the ongoing recovery and unloading operations of the WAN HAI 503, which is currently berthed at the designated Port of Refuge in Jebel Ali following a fire incident onboard.

The incident caused multiple fires across the vessel, resulting in extensive container damage. The unloading process has proven complex and is being carried out under strict safety supervision. Each container must be individually secured with slings and carefully lifted ashore by crane. Burnt debris and scrap materials are being removed with heavy machinery and transported using flatbed trucks.

In the main fire-affected area, steel plates and hatch covers have melted and deformed due to intense heat, requiring specialized cutting techniques to safely access damaged sections. All operations are proceeding under the close oversight of professional response teams to ensure the highest safety standards.

Unloading progress as of October 18, 2025

  • Containers unloaded: 356

  • Containers remaining: 1,366

Wan Hai Lines continues to work closely with on-site experts to overcome logistical challenges and accelerate the recovery process while maintaining safety as the top priority.

The company expressed its sincere appreciation to all relevant authorities, partners, and professional teams for their ongoing support and coordination throughout this demanding operation.
