Two seafarers are missing after a collision between a Singapore-registered containership and a Chinese-registered vessel.

The incident occurred on October 25 at about 8:00 p.m. (Singapore time) in waters off Guangzhou, in China, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said in a media statement on Sunday.

The MPA named the 144572-dwt Singapore-registered containership Wan Hai A17 (2024-built) and the Chinese-registered vessel Hai Li 5 as the ships involved.

According to information provided by Wan Hai Lines, Wan Hai A17 remains in stable condition with no injuries reported among its 23 crew members.

No pollution has been reported, the MPA noted.

“It is reported to be in a stable condition and has subsequently berthed at Nansha Port, China for inspection and investigations into the cause of the collision,” claims specialist WK Webster said on Saturday.

It was reported that Hai Li 5 had sunk, and the Chinese authorities are conducting search and rescue operations, said MPA, adding that it has been informed that two of the 15 crew members remain missing.

According to MPA authority, Wan Hai A17 is currently being held in port to assist the Chinese authorities in their investigations.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said it is in contact with Wan Hai Lines and the Chinese authorities to provide assistance, as needed.

MPA will also be investigating the incident, it added.
